PROJECT #18322 RESEARCH FOR Î’-LACTAMASE
FOLDING PERFORMANCE PROFILE
PROJECT SUMMARY
The rise in antibiotic resistant bacteria is a looming public health issue.
This project simulates AmpC β-lactamases found in many cephalosporin resistant bacteria.
This protein mediates resistance to most antibiotics by breaking down the drug.
Because it reduces the types of antibiotics that can be used to treat various infections, physicians have fewer ways to kill bacteria having this resistance protein.
Therefore, to design new antibiotics against these bacteria, we are interested in understanding how AmpC β-lactamase dynamics affects binding of various therapeutics.
This knowledge will help develop drugs that disrupt this enzyme, which will permit the use of broad spectrum antibiotics on these resistant bacteria again..
