New Device Comparison, Smarter Rankings, and a Clearer Folding.LAR.Systems
This release adds powerful new ways to compare hardware, narrow the rankings, understand data quality, estimate GPU energy costs, and explore Folding@Home activity. It also brings a broad usability and presentation update across Folding.LAR.Systems.
The goal is simple: help you find the right data, understand it, and move between related tools with less effort across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Compare up to four GPUs or CPUs
- Select two to four devices directly from the overall GPU or CPU rankings and open them in one side-by-side comparison table.
- Choose any selected device as the primary reference and see clearly labeled differences against the other models.
- Numeric rows show direction and percentage differences where a meaningful calculation is possible.
- Model names, brands, chips, confidence levels, and other descriptive specifications remain plain comparisons instead of receiving misleading numeric-style deltas.
- Rank, PPD, operating-system averages, sample counts, confidence, hardware identity, and sample recency are aligned under shared metric labels.
- Device names link directly to their full profiles, and comparison selections are retained in the page URL.
Search, filter, sort, and return to the same ranking view
- GPU and CPU ranking pages now include interactive search, filters, sorting, visible-result counts, and one-action reset controls.
- Search supports useful hardware identifiers such as model, family, chip, and brand, depending on the page.
- Filter by brand, operating-system coverage, and confidence level on supported ranking pages.
- Faceted filters adjust to the active result set so unavailable combinations do not lead users into avoidable dead ends.
- Sort GPUs by overall, Linux, or Windows PPD, operating-system difference, consistency, sample recency, sample volume, or model name.
- Sort CPUs by estimated total PPD, PPD per logical processor, consistency, sample recency, sample volume, or model name.
- Brand-specific GPU and CPU rankings now include the same streamlined search, confidence, operating-system, and sorting tools where relevant.
- Search, filter, sort, and comparison state is stored in the query string so a useful view can be revisited or shared.
Plan for GPU power use and electricity cost
- The GPU efficiency rankings now compare estimated power draw, daily kWh use, points per kWh, and estimated cost per one million points.
- Sort by lowest estimated cost, highest points per kWh, highest daily PPD, lowest power draw, or lowest daily energy use.
- Enter your own electricity rate instead of relying on the default $0.10 per kWh estimate.
- Your chosen rate is saved in the browser and updates estimated cost columns on the GPU efficiency rankings and GPU profile power-planning sections.
- GPU profiles provide day, week, month, and year projections so long-running Folding@Home systems can be planned against a local electricity rate.
- Power figures remain planning estimates based on community performance samples and vendor power guidance, not direct measurements from an individual machine.
A more consistent experience across the site
- Headers, section navigation, page content, and footers now follow a shared alignment and spacing system.
- Page titles, headings, supporting copy, labels, buttons, and metadata use a clearer visual hierarchy.
- Cards and panels use a more restrained corner treatment for a cleaner, less templated appearance.
- Repeated gaps and oversized content blocks have been reduced, bringing important information and controls higher on the page.
- Responsive layouts have been refined to wrap and stack more predictably on smaller screens.
- Navigation contrast, semantic page structure, table labeling, and keyboard-friendly content organization have been improved.
Better GPU and CPU rankings
- GPU and CPU rank pages place their new filters, comparisons, and ranked results close to the top of the page.
- Introductory information and database statistics are combined into compact, unified overview panels.
- Brand directories have been rebuilt with clearer manufacturer summaries, balanced layouts, and direct paths into focused rank boards.
- Tables now use more consistent labels, numeric alignment, text hierarchy, and responsive behavior.
- Confidence badges help distinguish well-supported averages from models with limited or volatile sample histories.
- Sample counts and relative last-seen dates make the depth and freshness of each row easier to assess.
- Narrow screens receive a stacked rank-card layout while preserving search, filters, sorting, confidence, profile links, and comparison controls.
More useful hardware profile pages
- GPU and CPU profile summaries have been condensed so averages, ranks, sample depth, confidence, and freshness can be reviewed together.
- First-seen and most-recent sample information now shares one compact table instead of separate repeated cards.
- Recent-performance summaries, power and cost planning, project averages, and related profiles use space more efficiently.
- Nearby hardware links are smaller and easier to scan while preserving quick access to relevant comparisons.
- GPU trend and work-unit charts have been restored and hardened against initialization-order issues.
- Unnecessary inner scrollbars have been removed from work-unit allocation cards when their contents already fit.
- Explanations of changing PPD results have been rewritten and condensed without removing the important guidance about projects, work units, operating systems, drivers, clocks, thermals, and power limits.
A streamlined League experience
- League overview, team, monthly division, archive, and user pages now prioritize standings and search tools over repeated explanatory content.
- Low-value watchlist and nearby-rival panels have been removed where they duplicated information already available in the rankings.
- Search controls use the available width more effectively and require less vertical space.
- Division icons remain in League navigation and selection controls, while contextual headings, breadcrumbs, and table labels use aligned accent text for easier reading.
- Board refresh timestamps and monthly-cycle information have been repaired and presented more clearly.
- Dense ranking boards retain their comparative structure while using more consistent typography and responsive overflow behavior.
Improved Research project pages
- Project summaries, team information, work-unit details, and related projects are now organized into one cohesive overview.
- Related projects remain available through a compact dropdown, including large project families, without stretching the page.
- Official project descriptions and glossary references are displayed side by side on larger screens so they can be read together.
- A direct jump to hardware-performance data helps users reach GPU and CPU results on long project pages.
- Research overview content has been simplified to make project discovery and supporting data easier to scan.
Reworked help and knowledge-base pages
- FAQ articles now use a responsive reading layout with an article contents menu, a focused reading column, Web Client access, and related articles.
- Article typography, paragraph width, heading spacing, and link presentation have been refined for long-form readability.
- FAQ breadcrumbs now return to the correct section directory.
- GPU, CPU, and Research FAQ directories have clearer search, article collections, article counts, and next-step navigation.
- A new Platform knowledge base has been added under Support for general updates, blog posts, and release notes.
- The 2025 End of Year Update has moved from the homepage into the General Platform Updates collection, where it can remain available without taking space away from current homepage content.
A more focused homepage
- The live work-unit feed is more compact and now shows at least three recent work units before scrolling to additional activity.
- Hardware type, platform, PPD, project, folder, and team information remain available in each entry.
- The homepage flow has been tightened to remove unnecessary seams and excess spacing between major sections.
- The main Folding@Home message has been corrected so the @ symbol renders cleanly at supported screen sizes.
More visible community support
- The full Community Supported module now appears throughout the site instead of using a reduced version on interior pages.
- The module recognizes the five most recent public supporters using live supporter data.
- The annual Base Operations Goal remains visible alongside recent supporters, with progress calculated from the current calendar year.
- Support benefits and the contribution action have been condensed into a clearer layout while keeping supporter recognition prominent.
Accessibility and quality improvements
- Removed a navigation fade treatment that reduced clarity and could interfere with contrast.
- Preserved visible dividers and boundaries in sticky navigation states.
- Improved heading and landmark semantics for assistive technology and search engines.
- Standardized table headers, captions, numeric values, states, and supporting labels without changing their underlying data behavior.
- Reduced nested scrolling and visual traps in cards and data panels.
- Completed broad desktop, tablet, mobile, route, build, database-health, and live-render validation throughout the update.
