Official Project Description
The norepinephrine transporter (NET) regulates synaptic norepinephrine levels by reuptake into presynaptic neurons.
NET influences many functions of the nervous system including attention, arousal, stress responses, and cardiovascular regulation.
Dysregulation of NET has been implicated in psychiatric and neurological disorders such as depression, ADHD, anxiety, and Parkinson’s disease.
NET is also a major drug target for antidepressants, ADHD medication, and drugs of abuse.
Understanding NET mechanisms provides insight into many diseases and guides development of targeted therapies and treatments.
